Cayce D. Kyles was a well-liked, 68-year-old, retired Elgin resident. Cayce worked at Burgess-Norton Manufacturing for many years before retiring. Even in his retirement, Cayce continued to work part-time for the Elgin Department of Grounds and Buildings and he attended St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Cayce Kyles was stabbed and killed as he walked down an alleyway behind the Douglas Hotel a block away from the Elgin Police Department by an unknown assailant leaving behind a large family including his wife, three children, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grand children.
