In 2024, Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley created the Elgin Police Department Cold Case Unit to take a fresh look at unsolved homicides, missing persons, sexual assault, and unidentified human remains cases within the City of Elgin.  Modern forensic technology and investigative methods allows new evidence to be uncovered that was not possible in the past. As part of this new unit, the department also launched a podcast called Somebody Knows Something which discusses and reviews cold cases in Elgin and seeks information from the public.
