45-year-old Carmelo Maldonado was at his residence located in the 300 block of Ryerson Avenue when he was attacked in what police believed was a targeted home invasion on or about January 7, 2014. He died at an area hospital on January 24, 2014 from injuries he sustained while being held inside the home and his death has been ruled a homicide.
